Out of stock | | | | | | Yamaha YAS-70BL Front Surround System provides surround sound and deep, powerful bass from just two units. Drawing on our extensive experience in digital signal processing and the use of sound reflections to create surround sound, Yamaha developed the Air Surround System. Through direct and reflected sound, it provides an enjoyable listening experience without multiple speakers. It can be used in rooms of all sizes, and is especially convenient for small rooms. Stereo sound can also be enjoyed. Yamaha's newly developed Advanced YST (Yamaha Active Servo Technology) combines negative impedance and constant-current principles to drive the speaker cone with even tighter control than previously. Using Advanced Negative Impedance converter (ANIC) circuits, this system dynamically optimizes effective speaker impedance to maintain excellent linearity. This means more stable and accurate low range response, not to mention higher sound pressure levels, for more natural and energetic bass reproduction. With YAS-70, you'll have no worries about compatibility with various movie sound formats. The amplifier's DSP circuitry can decode the three most popular formats: Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro Logic II (for 5.1-channel playback of 2-channel source material). The subwoofer features a high performance front-firing, active design. It provides power and detailed, accurate reproduction in a compact unit. Good bass is more than just pounding -- it's important for the full sonic enjoyment of games, music and especially movies. The digital amplifiers deliver 310W of the total power. | | | | | |

Muffled Vocals (too much Bass) May 08, 2010
I bought this unit based on the reviews (bought it Jan 2009).
Surround is not noticeable
Vocal are muffled (unless you turn up the volume - then there will be too much bass :S
Way too much base that cannot be adjusted Jun 29, 2009 The base is way too much and at it's lowest level is still too high. There is only one optical input, why?

Solid Purchase May 23, 2009 Good Sound, nice add-on for someone interested in a simple add-on without having to put speakers everywhere. Powerful enough to enjoy in a 20x12 room. Got them on a good sale, so it was a no-brainer.

Good but not great surround sound May 10, 2009 I got this at a great price so I'm definitely factoring that into my overall rating.
I also just bought a Soundmatters MainstageHD system to compare this with for my room. The Yamaha definitely has better "surround" but I feel the MainstageHD gave me a better front performance. The midrange here is pretty poor compared to the Mainstage. If only that thing can handle DTS I would've bought 2 just so I could pair it up for true surround.
What the Yamaha has over it is that it came with the sub. It's boomy but I'd say it's just average as far as subs go.
This unit is great for small to medium sized rooms if you don't want to run a lot of cable. If your room is NOT square/rectangular with near perfect symetry, forget about getting this unit. You will have a tough time distinguishing between surround and stereo.

Great investment for home theater May 04, 2009 It improves my home theater experience greatly - compare to speakers from my Sony LCD TV. Now I have great picture and sound.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
