Brought this unit after Sony promise an ipod docking for it! Jan 02, 2008
This AV receiver is great! Only thing is that Sony never came through with an digital input for this receiver or others for the ipod. Attaching the RCA red and white analog inputs to this receiver and others; you have faint sound because it not an digital input and so you have to turn your stereo volume up to max or your ipod up to max to get decent sound.
Sony in the mean time decided to invent an propietary input called the TDM-IP1 Digital Media Port that is only now available on the latest AV from Sony to address the ipod docking station request called the Digital Media Port iPod Dock . It cost around $150.00.
They wanted to make more money I guess but left out the millions of Sony AV purchasers with no digital connection for their ipods. I kind of left abandoned after being a Sony fan for last 20 years; even purchase the PS3. I have felt betrayed and have purchase other brands and avoided Sony in total!
You can purchase a Sony upscale DVD recorder/player with the Digital Media Port but you have to purchase an additional Sony propietary ipod docking station for another $150.00 Total cost of PS3 and docking station is around $360.00 just for digital ipod connection to your home theater/audio system.
PS3 does not have the Digital Media Port either! So Sony customer service did not know their interconnectability!
Sony is making it worse for loyal customers! I talk to many who feel like me - betrayed!
Just to update you on the Sony ES! I love the sound but gave it to a charity auction because their was no way to run the ipod even with the digital Media Port since the AV receiver has no input for it! It went for only $80 and I paided over $2,100 just 2 years ago! Oh well; that electronics! This time I went to a high end customized audio retailer and they set up everything: HDTV, wall, ceiling speakers, AV receiver, install my PS3, DirectTV, cabinet, lighting, controls, etc.... $18,000 for everything(installation was $9.8K)! My! oh my! Remote is $450.00!
Oh forgot about the chairs. Theater chairs four of them; black leather - $3,000! So everything total is around $22,000!
Now its just push - and everything works! Very nice! I even purchase a new ipod $250! I waiting to buy the next generation iphone and to see how hard it is to hack before I make the purchase. Don't want a phone you are tied to for life you know!

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
