Screen refuses to turn on Sep 10, 2009 I bought this tv only a few months ago and already I am experiencing the problems others have talked about in their reviews. Every so often the tv turns off...or won't even turn on to begin with. The power light just blinks every few seconds. Most of the time the tv will eventually turn itself on in an hour or so. However, I haven't been able to get the tv to turn on at all in the last two days. I am waiting for the repair guys to come take a look at it, but judging from other reviews...I'm not holding out much hope.
Another annoying part...when the tv jumps back and forth from mono to stereo a little windown pops up in the upper right-hand corner stating what audio mode it is in. Even though you can't really notice a difference in sound, there is no way to get the box to stop from popping up. The tv didn't do this at all when I first bought it, but over the last few months it has gotten progressively worse (as is the case with the tv turning itself off). This is my first Sharp I have ever had...and probably my last.

Complete Hunk of Junk!! May 09, 2009 Oh what a nightmare!!
I bought this TV brand new on Dec 28th last year (2008). After 2 months of operation I noticed slight color distortion. By 4 months it was bad enough I knew I wasn't imagining it and it was not program related.
Time to contact Sharp for warranty service. They tell me they need to "see" what it's doing. I have to sit there with my digital camera on watching TV waiting for it to mess up. Then I had to send the video to Sharp and wait for them to respond. After 2 weeks of waiting I called them up. They apologized for not getting back to me sooner and agreed the TV needed service. This was how May was spent.
Now it's June. The repair people have already been here twice. They replaced a circuit board and the TV finally worked well....for a whole hour and a half. Then it died. It did exactly what others have reported here. The screen went completely black and will not come back on. It is apparently also stuck in ON mode. I have tried everything I know to get it to break the connection. It will not respond to the remote or even to being unplugged. It doesn't matter how long I leave it unplugged, minutes or hours, as soon as I plug it back in the power green light is back on with out me turning the TV on. It's already on.
So now I am up to a third visit from the repair people. They are coming back out this Monday and this time they are taking the TV with them and giving me a loaner TV while they figure out what's going on with this lemon. I am SO SICK of dealing with this I could spit. I am ready for Sharp to just give me a brand new TV to replace this one all together. They can have this piece of crap back. It's currently sitting in the hallway awaiting pickup. It's completely useless to me.
It's a shame too because when it works, it work's very well. The picture is amazing. Too bad they used inferior parts to put it together. If you do buy one of these TVs, do yourself a favor and also buy the longest extended warranty offered. Chances are you will need it often. Sharp's is only for a year. You are on your own after that. I'm only 6 months into mine and look at what I've already had to deal with.

Sharp Is the Only Brand I would ever own! Apr 07, 2009 I bought this TV last year in June (2008) and have had it ever sense. The LCD Image is always very clear and vibrant, as the black is true black. The way the screen can be customized on your own or preselected Defaults for Games, Movie, ect. I love the expandability with Component, VGA, HDMI inputs that are available allowing me to connect my DVD Recorder, Cable DVR, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii with easy selection and great picture.
I understand this isn't fancy 1080p as I have no interest in paying the top dollar for the best picture as I found I have a life away from my TV,besides I'm sure all those plasma freaks are kicking themselves with the New LCD TV's lol.
If your looking for a good deal on a good TV that will last you a long time no need to look elsewhere, I have always had sharp TV's and not one has ever had any troubles and I will continue to purchase them.
Pros: Sleek Design, Easy To use menu structure, Bright vibrant colors, lots of inputs for nearly everything.
Cons: Speakers aren't the best but I have a Bose surround so it doesn't really matter :/ (Then again what TV can you truly remember having all that great of speakers? If there were more than a few We wouldn't have such a market for the surround sound systems)

Smearing/Motion Blur ruin this TV. Apr 04, 2009 This was my first HDTV and boy do I wish I would have done more research.
I bought this back in November 2008 when it was a fairly new model and not much info on it. Looking through all the HDTVs at Wal-Mart in the same price range this tv not only looked the nicest the picture seemed the best out of the bunch as well.
Fast forward to April 2009. What a mistake it was buying this TV. The motion blur is ridiculous on this TV as well as suffering from SEVERE motion blur and smearing/ghosting. I've tried all combinations and this TV is just not good. AVOID if you play PS3 or 360. Games look terrible because of the smearing. So much for the 6ms response time.
In a nutshell:
PROS: Sleek, black shell. Solid colors/contrast....but
CONS: Severe motion blur, red smearing/ghosting, only way to improve it a bit is turning up brightness which ruins your contrast and washes picture out, horrible speakers.
Again there are FAR better TV's out there today for this price and even cheaper. DO NOT BUY!
My first High-def flat screen Mar 05, 2009 I purchased this on black friday and got a great deal ($400). I am very happy. I have had no problems with it. I have it hooked up with component cables and the picture is great. I have seen some hi-defs that really distort regular signals, but this tv does a good job on regular or hi-def. Only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because it is 720p and not 1080. I don't know why they don't call 720p mid-def. I sit about 8 feet away when I watch and I have no complaints.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
