I purchased the system at an 80% discount, so my expectations were low. The surround sounds great. It has unbelievable bass without a subwoofer. While watching movies, the walls shake upstairs. The center channel is much softer than the surround. You have to set the main volume very high to understand conversations. The makes the music and surround very loud between conversations. I've looked for ways to increase the center channel volume without success. I would actually trade some of the bass for a louder center channel. The stereo features are nice. The radio works well. I've used the USB input for photo slide shows and MP3 music. You CAN have HDMI from a blueray player, but your TV needs at least 2 HDMI connections. I hooked my blueray player to the one HDMI connection on my TV and hooked the surround receiver to the second HDMI connection of the TV. You simply set the surround receiver to TV and your TV to your blueray player. This setup is not in the manual, but it works well.

I would recommend you pass on this system. The sound is just OK at best. Product quality is just not there. The system I returned to Amazon would freeze up quite often, requiring a reset by means of the rear on/off switch. Very frustrating. I am a POLK fan from my last 5.1 surround speaker system, so although I was not expecting true surround sound, I was expecting good POLK sound and the same great quality ... it just wasn't there.

This device performed better than expected and I'm very pleased with all facets: the shipping - arrived early, the product was easy to set up and the DVD quality is eye-popping. All in all, it was everything I expected, and I'm pleased with the purchase.

The Polk SurroundBar speaker system is compact and easy to install. The sound it produces is better than the TV's internal speakers and not as good as a $$$ full-on multiple-$peaker $ystem. For me, it's an acceptable compromise.

Installed easy.
Sound is ok but still need to hook up my bass. Also, need to read manual and tweak it for better sound with movies.
Sure beats monitor speakers.

Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
