 can't beat for the price Mar 19, 2010
Bought one at Best Buy for $199.00. Then found it here for 1/2 that, so I bought one for our family room too. Sounds great!!!
Love the sound of the Polk Subwoofer Mar 15, 2010
I never realized what a difference a subwoofer would make! A salesman at Bose recommended I add one to my system. He said that it would really enhance the sound from movies and it did just that. But it also added a lot to all the music I play. Bose doesn't make subwoofers so I searched Amazon and based on everyone's comments chose this one. I am very pleased. I realalize I could have spent hundreds of dollars more and am very satisfied.
 Good but not great... Mar 15, 2010
Ok. First of all I have to let you know that I purchased 2 of these for my Man-Cave. Together they sound really good. Alone, I don't think it would be strong enough for my taste.
Pro's: Built solid. Looks good. Sounds good for less than $100.
Con's: Can only have the "gain" up to 50%, any higher and it sounds distorted. The grill on one of my subs rattles when the base hits real hard... but the other sounds fine. If you take off the grill it goes away. But the biggest thing is that you can't turn the "gain" up past 50% or so because you will hear a lot of distortion.
Watched Terminator Salvation last night. Sounded really good, nice bass... but I also have 2 of these.
Would have gone with a Polk 12" like the 505... i think that's what my brother has. Thats hits real good and sounds real nice.
All in all.... I am happy with them, but I wish they were able to do what is expected of them.

The performance and sound are very impressive, the only dislike is I would like to have had an on/off switch for times when I don't want the bass. I can work around the problem. A very good buy for the price.

this is a great sub for the price it sounds wonderful added to my system. great bass movies sound and feel much better now that i have added a powered sub.

Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
