Polk Monitor Series 60 Speaker Jun 18, 2010 I am an amateur, "cheap", audiophile. I started life with a Panasonic system with Advent Loudspeakers!!! I purchased these speakers new about 1978 and my sister still uses them - they never needed re-foaming!! I replaced them with the Advent Heritage speakers. I love them!!!! I used various Yamaha receivers with them. Several years ago, I went to Marantz. I now use a Marantz SR 4023 receiver with a Marantz CD 5003 CD player. The still mint Advent Heritage speakers perform superbly!!!! This system is still in my living room and I worship it!
I also have a system in my smaller family room. I just purchased Polk Monitor 60 speakers for use with a Marantz SR 4021 receiver with a Marantz CD 5003 CD player.
I now have to compare the Advent Heritage speakers with Polk Monitor 60 speakers. The Advent Heritage speakers are still clearly the best. The Polk speakers do lack bass. However, by turning up the bass on the receiver, in the smaller family room, I find the performance of the Polk 60's to be great! It is not as good as the Advent Heritage speakers, but is is still wonderful. The Polk 60 speakers are now being discounted. I bought mine on [...]. I am very, very pleased with my purchase. I listen to a variety of music - musicals and classical. The Polk functions very well on everything! They look nice and sound nice - tho a little weak on bass!
Best Value Out There Jun 03, 2010 I just bought a pair of the Polk Audio monitor 60's and hooked them up today. These speakers are awesome! My father has a much pricier pair of jamo's and those dont even compare to these. I have a 7.1 Channel Technics receiver with Dolby Digital surround sound, a polk audio Monitor series center channel speaker and two bose speakers for the rear, with a polk audio psw12 subwoofer. These speakers can handle anything from rap to rock to gaming and movies. The only thing is I definitely would recommend getting a subwoofer in addition to these speakers, because while they do have some bass its not enough for a very enjoyable listening experience, however the treble is amazing! Theres literally nothing i would change about these speakers, even the black paneling is extremely attractive, definitely a satisfied customer and would recommend this product to anyone, especially for only $179.99!!!

Not bad Aug 14, 2009 I got a pair of these from a different seller for a cheaper price and for the price I paid they are pretty well worth it. I'm pushing them with a Yamaha HTR-5940 amp and they seem to handle the abuse pretty well. Does get a bit scratchy at around -15db blasting some good old Metallica but hey what do you expect for a budget pair of speakers? They work very well for home theater, very full and rich. Not much to say for bass, but for 5.25" woofers what do you expect? Thats why I've got a sub (also from polk, psw111). Highs are a bit harsh at higher volumes but that may also be from my amp who knows. Overall a very decent speaker for the money.

Very good sound for the money Jul 16, 2009 I am very happy with the sound of this speaker. They do lack bass, but i bought a 10" powered Boston Acoustics sub to compliment them.
I did bi-wire mine on the advice of some other Monitor 60 owners. While not night and day better, i do think it helps. Set your subwoofer crossover level ( at the reciever ) in the 50hz-60hz range, use high quality speaker wire, and give them some break in time.
I have had mine for about a year, and am still very impressed with the detail they produce. My only reason for no 5 star is that i'm sure it's not the perfect speaker, but their performance per dollar spent is outstanding.

Very nice sounding speakers at a great price! Jul 11, 2009 Well, I had been looking at various floorstanding speakers from all sorts of manufacturers and various websites......not to mention reading numerous reviews on speakers. Finally, after timing it perfect, I was able to get a pair of these Polk Monitor 60 speakers for $107.99 each w/FREE shipping at a different website (they have the word EGG in their name). So, for $215.98 I have a PAIR of these Polk Monitor 60 speakers set up in my Livingroom.....er....Home Theater Room. :)
Ok, first impressions:
These speakers are VERY nice looking, well built, solid, nice weight to them, look MUCH better w/o speaker grills IMO. It took all of 15 minutes to hook these up (I did the BI-Wire technique) to my HT receiver. The sound is very warm, crisp and sounds MUCH better than my bookshelf speakers I was currently using. The speakers are still only 3 days old, so I still need to let them "break-in" for about 30 days to see the full benefit of sound quality.
Pros: PRICE, Polk name & quality, nice size floorstanding speaker (not too big, but large enough to look high-end) sound quality so far is nice, but I expect it to get better over time as well, look great (especially w/o grill covers), they DO sound great (just don't expect these to have much bass or "boom" to them).
Cons: Very little-to NO bass (I knew this going in, but I haven't had a real good chance to "jam" these yet.....but I did briefly turn them up & bass is virtually null), maybe should have spent the extra $$$ for the Polk Monitor 70 series (those run $199.99 EACH, so they better sound better!), they are deep dimension-wise (stick out from wall a good 14").
**I have some extra $$ left over now, since I got these SO CHEAP, I can get a 12" powered SUB to fix the bass-lacking issue. :)
All, in all, I am happy with these Polk Monitor 60 speakers...especially for the price I got them for over a "secret" 4th of July sale. I have NEVER seen these speakers that cheap EVER before.....the next day, they were back to $149.99 EACH w/free shipping!
If you can catch the Polk Monitor 70 speakers on a deal (for $150-$175 each), maybe get those if you can afford the extra $$. But, for $107.99 each w/free ship..... I am a VERY happy customer with these Polk Monitor 60's.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
