 Great product OK sound Mar 05, 2010
I have had my cherry M50s for a little over a year and use them extensively for listening to radio, music from CD and iPod and movies.
In a nutshell these are beautiful furniture quality speakers that pass that most important 'will my wife like to have them in the living room' test, however the sound is not what it could be for a large floor speaker. The sound is actually pretty good, but tolerable is the word I would prefer. I found them to be a bit harsh in the highs and lacking depth until I bi-wired them. They are hungry for power and bi-wired with 105 watts per channel watts they sound better, but still lack crispness and punch.
The point is that the case and build quality suggests that these are going to be in my living room for a good ten years, during which they will look nice but I will also feel like I compromised on having just 'OK' sound. Go ahead and buy them as your first set of floor speakers - but know that you will likely want to upgrade in the future. But I strongly suggest that you not upgrade to these, hold on to what you have and save a few more bucks for a pair of RTi A5, A7 or A9s.
For me I will buy a pair of cherry RTi A7s to match (when they come down in price) and use the M50s as rears. Like I said, I'm sure that these will be in my living room for a good ten years...

Bought them on Amazon. Excellent quality for front speakers. Use with sub-woofer for best results.

Polk is always hard to beat. They set the bar pretty high.. Just listen to these speakers and any of their products next to the competitions and you'll see what I mean. These monitors are used to complement my Polk Center Channel, Polk PSW505 Sub, and bose satellite cube speakers. These Speakers are very clear. I tried them without the sub to see how hard they hit with the bass as well. They supply enough bass to have a good effect when watching movies or playing games but they can not match what a good sub can do. For the price these speakers are hard to beat. They look and feel well built. I am happy with my purchase and their ability to fill my 24x30 room.

sounds live (but get a subwoofer) May 29, 2009
These speakers surprised me as they seemed so lacking in bass. But the projection and midrange and high-end detail of these things is truly, for the price, astounding. But if you want the whole scene, you will have to get a subwoofer. However, the sheer presence of these things is so much closer to being at a live show than any speakers I have heard of. And they're so balanced; yes, they have a very powerful midrange, but there is no distortion. And the stereo separation is so clean. For $300, I have never heard anything near them. Still, I would reccomend getting a subwoofer as I was surprised by their lack of bass; however, the bass they present is totally accurate-- it's just not big; but it's accurate. I really love these speakers, even without a subwoofer, and that's what sold me-- eventually I'll get a sub, but even without it, I just love their sound.

Excellent sound May 15, 2009
I'm using this with an Onkyo TR-606 alongside a Toshiba 62" DLP HDTV and a full set of Polk speakers, and the sound quality is remarkable. I have four of these for the four corner speakers and they do great both in music and movies and TV, with excellent separation.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
