4A satisfied buyer  May 06, 2009
Just got this a few days ago at a great sale price (not from this site though), and I am quite pleased with the image and sound. The 47 inch screen may be a bit large for the room, but when it comes to movie viewing, you won't regret going with the largest screen size you can get away with, as this will add to the viewing experience. The picture quality is terrific, and although TV aficionados may be right about the superiority of plasmas over LCDs on black-levels, this is not an issue for me. I don't see any justification paying hundreds of dollars more for an equivalent-sized Panasonic plasma. As to the sound, the rear-facing "invisible" 15-watt speakers are more than adequate. Adjust the sound settings through an on-screen equalizer, and you get crisp sound with great volume. You won't have to buy external speakers, but a sub-woofer would be nice for those who want to shake up the room.

5Happy with this TV  Mar 19, 2009
I bought this TV a week before Thanksgiving 2008. The remote is basic and the menu is dull and boring compared to say Samsung. But those are trivial details. I am happy with this TV. I have hooked up my cable and PS3 to this and all I can say is the picture quality is good, the sound is great. If you live in an apartment like me in NYC area, then trust me, you don't need a home theater system.

For just a little over 1K (thats what I paid), this TV is pretty nice. No complains.

1Terrible USB Support, customer service  Feb 13, 2009
Don't put any stock in the specs. First, the TV's slideshow feature DOES NOT support .alb files, even though it clearly states so in every spec sheet I have ever read, and it says explicitly so in the manual. The email and telephone customer support is terrible - they have no idea what you are talking about when you call. The email support does not allow you to respond to answers they give you (sent from an unattended email address). Finally, if you want to use this TV to do business presentations or show slideshows from a USB camera, drive, or flash device, you CANNOT SORT THE IMAGES. The TV does not sort by name, number, date, or anything that makes logical sense.

I happen to have discovered how the sorting is done, and was able to fix the issue myself with a third-party app that runs on Windows (it's easier in Linux). However, I am not giving up the secret because Philips does not deserve this service from me. The infuriated me so badly, I will never buy another Philips product.

Otherwise, the TV has mediocre performance, poor menus, and a bad remote.

Don't listen to all of the other reviews that say good connectivity. An LCD without PC input (except HDMI)?! What?! If it had PC input I wouldn't care so much about the USB stuff, but I can't do a presentation on this without going out and buying an HDMI capable laptop. (Don't tell me about S-Video - the picture is AWFUL on this TV).

DO NOT BUY THIS TV!

5Makes any regular DVD look HD  Dec 22, 2008
We bought this TV at sams club and we got a 300 dollar in store gift card. We bought the TV for 1200, do the math...good deal!

Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised by how this tv makes our regular DVD's look HIGH DEF. For this, we're going to hold off on Blue-ray for awhile.

The TV is 120hz so the motion of the camera and subjects in the movie seem to move around different, but the quality is awsome.

I don't have a lot of Electronic jargon to throw at you but you need to know you won't be disappointed with this TV. The TV even has audio plug ins for 5.1 surround sound...I've only seen this on computers and receivers.

I'm not sure when the best time to buy a TV is since the price are always coming down. My advice is don't buy a TV with less than 120hz and 29,000:1 contrast ratio (depending on your budget). Because this is the cream of the crop right now...well you can get a contrast ratio better than that, but realistically, you shouldn't get anything lower than that.

Sears or most stores give you 60 days to keep your reciept for price matching. if you own a club membership, I highly recommend you look there first and ask about free giftcards with a large purchase like this.

2You get what you pay for.....  Dec 20, 2008
This TV has a lot of grainy reception. Don't fall in love with the price (Wal-Mart) I have a HP 37" LC3760N and I think the world of it. If you are looking for a starter LCD TV start there.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
