Bad luck, perhaps? Feb 10, 2010 I decided to purchase this set after having read all the positive reviews on it. However, I did not take into consideration that most reviews are written just a short time after a purchase. This was a big mistake on my part. I purchased my tv in November, 2008. Yes, the picture is amazing. However, only 14 months later, and conveniently, 2 months out of warranty, the power panel failed. The cost to replace it is $1900. Needless to say, after only 14 months, the tv is now garbage. There is absolutely no point in paying $1900 to repair something that cost $1100. After having done some thorough research, I learned that certain Panasonics made during a certain time had some bad parts in them. Had I known this before hand, I never would have bought this tv. My only suggestion is to really do your homework before making any purchase, especially buying a new tv.
Ashamed to say it's the best thing I've ever purchased. Sep 11, 2009 I bought this TV last spring and paid $1600, something I'd said I'd never do. Brought it home and set it up and was a little stunned to find out that I needed to upgrade my DirectTV receiver to HD. After all was said and done, it truly is the best thing I've ever purchased. I talked to 2 different salesmen from 2 different major dept. store chains when I was looking. I was set on the LCD from what I had heard. After the "spiel", I asked both salesmen what they owned and they both said "plasma". They explained some stuff about the rate of speed that is captured with the plasma and that they both notice the LCD streaking at times of high action in sporting events. They also did warn me about reflection issues with the plasma and they were right. I have a window at the back of the room on the south side of the house and when the sun shines in, I have to shut the curtains. If I look close (really, really close), I can see the lights in the room reflect off the glass like screen, but the outstanding picture and contrast make it a non-issue for me. I used to occasionally check in to catch the scores of the MN Twins games with my 34 inch Toshiba, now I look forward to coming home and watching the entire games. I'm still paying off the credit card, but haven't sent in a payment yet that hasn't brought satisfaction to mind. I'm salivating waiting for Football season! It's really a great TV....
Awesome TV Jun 20, 2009 This tv was at least $500 more at the traditional stores (Best Buy, Ultimate Electronics...). We bought it with free shipping and it was delivered by two people with in just a few days of us ordering. It is a great TV!! Beautiful picture!!
Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ80U 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV May 26, 2009 This plasma tv looks awesome mounted on the wall in my gaming/ chilling area! Xbox 360 looks perfect on it and i sometimes hook my overclocked beast of a PC to it (via DVI-HDMI or HDMI-HDMI cable) and max out the eye candy, and let me tell you...ITS UNREAL! Of course HDTV looks great on it...ok..Everything looks great on it! Make sure you get a surround sound audio system to use with this.
Panasonic 50" Plasma Apr 16, 2009 Excellent performing plasma. Has nice hook up and card slots. The built in speakers will get you buy until you get a surround system.
We watch fast actions sports/movies and this plasma does a great job following the action without shadows or pixelization. This made it an easy choice over any LCD.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
