Out of stock | | | | | | It's easy to get excited about home theater that's easy on the wallet. And in recent times, we've been spoiled for choice. The only downside is that most packaged home theater systems have largely missed the target. It's all about covering the fundamental A/V considerations—that's the design focus of the HT-S3100 5.1-channel receiver/speaker package. Where others fall short, the HT-S3100 covers today's key entertainment options—DVD video, audio CDs and digital music files, TV and satellite broadcasts, and gaming. With the reliability of component video, you can even bring Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD into the mix. As with all Onkyo A/V components, the HT-S3100 has a trademark amplification design that puts power and precision before all else. | | | | | |

ONKYO HT-S3100 5.1 Nov 13, 2009 NO REMOTE!! maybe i'm missing something, but i assumed that the system would come with a remote. not tragic, since i was able to program my direct TV remote to the system, but frustrating nonetheless. as far as the system, though - so far, so good. bought it a few weeks ago, and it is working pretty well. others, here, have a little more experience with audio equipment, so i would encourage you to review the rest. i read through about 50 reviews, and they all lived up to the 4+ star rating i'm giving, too.
Simply Amazing! Jul 23, 2009 This unit clearly rock the walls in my 2,400 sq footage home. Here is my story:
I went out and bought a 50" LG Plasma TV 1080p and quickly decided I needed a home theatre system to go along with my setup. I previously had a Onkyo System prior to my seperation and yes she took the big screen tv along with my home theatre system. Long story short, I visited my local HHGREG and bought the Onkyo 5200 system. I returned the unit simply because of the HDMI pass-through feature (I originally thought it could handle the HDMI input). So I returned the unit and bought HHGREG BOSE basic setup (with av inputs). The only thing that stopped me from keeping the BOSE setup was the fact my tv did not have a AV OUTPUT port (only AV OUT). At this point I begin to scour the internet and thought clearly I could find a good quality used Onkyo System somewhere! After visiting Amazon and reading all the good reviews on this basic Onkyo System (No HMDI) I took the plunge. I had a choice of colors Silver $189.00 or Black $239.00. I read each review and took into consideration the pros and cons of the system. After the system arrived I quickly went to Walmart and purchased 30ft of 14 gauge speaker wire for less than $15! PEOPLE YOU MUST GET THE 14 GAUGE SPEAKER WIRE -- YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! I then took the time to sit down and read the manual after the initial setup was complete! I adjusted the bass/treble to my liking and assigned the optical ports to the correct selectors and I'm good to go! This system simply rocks for my need. It is not the latest and greatest but it definetly get the job done!

Onkyo is junk, and they don't care May 30, 2009 I purchased Onkyo's HT-S3100 home theater system on February 6, 2009. On May 15 the receiver failed. After being put on standby mode for about two days, to save electricity, all of many attempts to turn it back on to use it have been unsuccessful. It's apparently "fried." The Onkyo web site offers a telephone number to call for technical assistance. I've called it 5 times in the last eight days (through 5/29/2009) and am each time invited by their recording, since alive person never comes to the phone, to leave a telephone number at which to be called back. Onkyo has not called back once. Their stuff is junk, they know it, and apparently they have no intention of honoring their warranty. Anyone know if Bernie Madoff owns them?

Great Deal for the Money May 22, 2009 I have owned this system for about 4 months now and I feel that is an adequate length of time to give an accurate review.
I read reviews and did in store tests for just under a month before buying this. I originally was interested in the base Sony model, but after testing it at the now discontinued Circuit City, I saw the Sony was no match for this Onkyo. The Sony wattage is always over-exaggerated, with it being extremely evident when doing a side by side comparison.
Here is a quick breakdown on the pro's + con's.
Pro's:
Amazing sound for the money
-Blu-Ray live concerts will blow you away
Above average bass (but not the best for the $)
Extremely easy setup
Lengthy wire cords (Have to buy extra wire w/ the Sony)
Easy to use remote
Con's:
No HDMI's
-This can be overcome by using HDMI from your source (PS3 or cable box) to your TV and optical cable from there to the console. I have it set up this way and no signal quality is lost, guaranteed...a optical cable does carry Dolby Digital and DTS signals.
Large main console (You may face placement issues)
I am very pleased with my purchase and have 0 regrets to this day. I know you won't either.

Sweet Surround Sound on the Cheap May 20, 2009 First things first. This is a great surround sound system in a box! Plus, it was pretty inexpensive. Onkyo is known for their great surround sound systems, and this one is no exception. I have an HDTV, but this system does not have an HDMI connection, but I knew that when purchasing. I simply bought a really inexpensive optical cable from here at Amazon to connect the system to my TV. The audio quality is excellent, and the system has plenty of settings to mess with. I have an Xbox-360 and PS3, and the 5.1 sound pumped out of this thing really puts you in the game. I can't recommend this unit enough! You still reading? Buy this thing already!

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
