Because compromise isn't an option, the Reference Series RB-61 lets listeners experience all the power, detail and emotion of cinematic spectacles and riveting concert performances. With its superior technology and elegant design, this speaker definitely stands out in a crowd. Exclusive Tractrix(R) Horns have always been the key component of this critically acclaimed series. In the RB-61, this technology has been refined to include improved throat geometry for a more genuine, lifelike sound. Behind the horn lies a 1-inch titanium tweeter with a large ceramic motor structure to provide a unique combination of precision, clarity and effortless power. The RB-61 employs a 6.5-inch woofer for a solid bass foundation. This Cerametallic(TM) woofer with inverted copper dust cap exhibits a very high stiffness-to-mass ratio and superb damping characteristics. The RB-61's front-firing port eliminates turbulence noise and makes installation into custom cabinetry a breeze. Increased baffle ribbing around the horn mouth dramatically improves acoustics across the sonic range. For signal purity and perfect driver integration, the crossover on the RB-61 features the finest components and Klipsch custom internal wiring.

5Klipsh sound at a high level  Jul 15, 2010
Don't pay more than $400/pair. Well worth that price though. Efficient, crisp, clear, LOUD - just like a Klipsch should be. Can take a beating before distorting. Beware of ear fatigue if your not used to loud music. If you don't like horn loaded tweeter's look elsewhere now, Klipsch sound is pretty much defined by it.

The drawback is their size, for a 'bookshelf' speaker this fella has a pretty big footprint and cieling. Nothing excessive though, just a bit on the robust side.

In retrospect I would have bought a pair of the RF-61's instead, just so I didn't have to use speaker stands - not because the RB-61 has let me down sonically. The sound here is wonderful.

(don't use a yamaha receiver to push these or any other klipsch speakers. For some reason Yamaha makes Klipsch sound like trash. Pioneer, NAD, Marantz, HK, and Arcam match very well with Klipsch. Onkyo I have found to be acceptable for klipsch, but not ideal. i have come across many disagreements for my stance on onkyo)

1My ears are killing me from these things. Grado-style speakers  Jul 02, 2010
These speakers are exactly like grado headphones. They sound great on some rock and electronic songs giving me that beloved eargasm, but on 95% perfect of my other songs, it just sounds okay. The worst part about these speakers is that they will fatigue your ears in about 30 minutes.

5 minutes into my music, I was like "oh my god, I found the speakers I wanted", then 20 or so minutes later I just couldnt listen anymore. I couldnt watch tv or listen to music, my ears are ringing.

I let these burn in for about 2 days and still the sound kills my ears. Forget watching movies with these, they dont have any soundstage, plug you have to be directly be in front of them, anything to the side, and you get terrible sound, sorry for run on, wanted to make this quick.

Quick Negative Note: There is a volume position on these speakers where below this position on the amp, the sound loses its bass, then on the higher side, it gets bass but is too loud. Not good at all for low volume listening.

Do not even think of buying them!!!! I consider myself highly experienced in sound, having spent thousands in amps, speakers, and headphones. I am a person who loves sound you can dance to and feel, not a snubby audiophile acting like he has a Ph.D who just examines music and has lost all feeling. Music is feeling!!!

Equalizers do not help with these either. Just like anything in audio, if it requires an equalizer, another part of the audio spectrum is going to suffer.

4Overly bright sound. Need more break-in time?  Dec 13, 2009
I have the RB-61's in the cherry color. They look great and are built solid. They are hooked up to a Yamaha RX-797 stereo receiver which has very good specs and is advertised as being made with high-end components. I listen to classic rock, pop, smooth jazz and new-age.
The first thing I noticed about the RB-61s is the bright highs. I like to hear the higher frequencies in music, and so I usually have the treble set very high. In the case of the RB-61s, I had to turn the treble down to about "6" just so I could tolerate it. I have listened to these speaker for only about 12 hours. Up to this point I must say that they can be "tiring". The bass and mid-range is very good. The sound projects well and fills my living room with music. But the high-end can almost be annoying. It's my belief that the horn-shaped tweeter housing contributes to the harshness. I've heard that Klipsch speakers tend to require a longer break-in period than most others. For this reason, I will be patient and give them a chance. I'd give them 5 stars for their beauty and quality construction. The harshness (before break-in ?) warrants 4 stars.

4Great Sound  Dec 03, 2009
They are a bit overbright in the high tones when they are new and need a break in time. When they have played for some time, the overbright sound is gone. So be patient for a little while. After the break in, you will get: Clean crisp treble with a lot of detail in the music. They can play loud with out loosing the control of the music. There is a good bass, but missing deep bass. Suppley with an active subwoofer and you have a great sound set up. They work wery well with my B&W ASW 608 sub and 14 watt Singel End tube amp.

5Impecable Sound  Oct 31, 2009
I auditioned numerous speakers before discovering Klipsch sort of by accident. It sounds overstated, but the simple truth is the rich perfect sound from these speakers exceeds anything I've ever heard. Polk, Cerwin Vega, Boston Acoustics, Infinity, Bose and many more that I or family members have owned all pale in comparison to these.

The first thing I popped in when I paired these up with my RC-52 center was Eagle Eye on BluRay. The speakers they replaced weren't bad, but the difference was startling. Every little background sound in the soundtrack is clear and distinct. Dialog that was lost before became perfectly clear. Yet with the crisp clarity there is no harsh or mechanical quality to the sound. It remains rich and full. They handle music, video games and eveything else I have given them with equal ease.

If there is a volume level at which the sound quality detiorates it exceeds my ability to tolerate. If there is a better set of spaekers in any price range I have yet to hear them. I look forward to rounding out the system with Klipsch rear surrounds and subwoofer.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
