STS's Sep 27, 2009
I own 4 Mythos STS's a center channel Mythos Ten 2 Mythos gem xl's 2 supercube reference subwoofers along with a Denon 4308ci for a full 7.2 setup. These speakers are unbelievable. The bass my 4 STS's combined put out is very powerfull!!! so powerfull that I really have no need to turn on my 2 subs wich are 1,800 watts apiece. With the 4 STS's combined I have a total of 1,200 watts of subs. The sound I get is very very forcefull and in your face!! You don't just hear the music and movies you feel it!!! God help me and my neighbors if I decide to turn on my two Supercube Reference Subs. Voice quality is phenomenal sometimes it sounds as if the person is right there in the room with me. They excell at every type of music And when I say I listen to everything I mean it, They do a perfect job from the synthesizer of the 80's and some of my favorites like the Cars and The Talking Heads to the organs of Janis Joplin and Al Green and the great sounds of Thin Lizzy the Beatles the Doors Pink Floyd and the guitars of Queen and Iron Maiden to the Indie beats of the Strokes and the electronic sounds of Ladytron to the most gorgeous voices of P.O.E and Nina Persson from the Cardigans to the trip hop beats of Portishead and even some classical like the piano in Mozarts Moonlight Sonata or the orchestra of Beethoven's 7th Symphony 2 movement to the punk rock beats of the Misfits and the Spanish acoustical guitars and beautifull voice of Ana Gabriel. All around these are very very very strong speakers I have no complaints thay have made me enjoy music all over again. With these Speakers you don't just hear the music and movies you feel it you are surrounded and immersed by it. And on top of everything they are the perfect size they fit anywhere and they are absolutely gorgeous! And as for placement because of the built in amps they carry that is not an issue at all that is why I have 2 Supercube Reference Subs. But the 4 STS's combined can deal out some pretty good house rattling bass on their own.

Impressive, most impressive Sep 04, 2009
I'm not an audiophile, however, I've done research over the years to narrow down which speakers to get after my twelve year old Infinity towers were retired. I am very impressed with these Def Tech Mythos STS speakers. It didn't hurt that they were on sale for half price on Amazon because they are silver. The Mythos STS speakers have amazing clarity and detail. I was wondering how the built-in subwoofers would perform and I was not disappointed. It's only been a little over a month, but so far I am very happy these speaker's performance on both movies and music.

Great sound from a slim, low profile speaker Jun 12, 2009
5 stars based on a fuller range sound coming from a slender design speaker used in a small room when large box towers are not an option. I still prefer large box towers when space is not an issue but those with space limitations should check these out.
1. Packaging was very good, double boxed, secure and no issues with shipping.
2. The STS was an upgrade from my old fronts, Mythos ones. I read great reviews online about the STS and ST and was impressed when I heard them in person. The upgrade made a big difference, the STS really do sound like big speakers with a wide dynamic range which was missing with the Mythos Ones (even with a supercube 1), the Ones sounded thin and small. If space is an issue or the wife won't let you get those big box towers then check out the STS and ST, I was pleasantly surprised.
3. I'm running STS as fronts, Mythos 10 as a center, supercube 1, gems as surrounds in a small room (corner placement of plasma TV). No option but to use low profile slim tower fronts. Audyssey Multieq was run and then I fine tuned with a SPL meter. Audyssey set the STS at 40 hz crossover, Mythos 10 to 80 hz crossover, and the gems at 120 hz. I set the STS to small (crossover 40 Hz) so the very low frequencies go to the sub. Upgrade was well worth the price.
4. STS fronts are great for watching TV in stereo, bass is tight and fast, not boomy. It no longer sounds like TV speakers or lifestyle speakers.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
