Enjoying a superb sounding audiophile-grade surround experience has never been more convenient. Simply connect an SSA to any multi-channel receiver and powered subwoofer to enjoy enveloping surround sound without the bother of running long wires and finding places for rear speakers.
SSA Surround technology uses subtle but complex directional cues to completely free the sound from the box and convince your ear/brain listening mechanism that you are surrounded by great sounding Definitive loudspeakers. Since SSA Surround does not depend on bouncing sound off walls, it works in virtually any room and set-up configuration.
The SSA-50 uses SSA technology on the surround channel speakers and the front left and right speakers as well, so that you get big three-dimensional imaging from both multi-channel and stereo sources.

| | The ProSub 1000 Subwoofer Speaker produces true state-of-the-art bass performance thanks to such features as a built-in, high-power, high-current amplifier, sophisticated electronic crossovers, and a high-definition 10-inch woofer with a polymer cone coupled to a single 10-inch infrasonic radiator. All of Definitive's ProSub powered subwoofers incorporate the company's patented, digitally coupled Infinite Power Source amplifiers--300 watts RMS in the case of the ProSub 1000--with high-current direct coupled power supplies and discrete MOSFET output devices helping ensure perfect high-definition resolution and reproduction. The sub's construction quality is also topnotch, with only the highest-quality components used, including mil-spec glass epoxy circuit boards and precision resistors and capacitors. The powerful high-definition drivers, meanwhile, were specifically engineered by Definitive to deliver rock-solid low-distortion bass that reaches down to the lowest subsonic frequencies, with an outstanding quality of superior transient response unequaled in the world. Add in a continuously adjustable low-pass filter control--which allows you to choose a roll-off from 40 to 150 Hz for the high end of the subwoofer--and you have an ideal subwoofer to blend into your ProCinema system. | | | SuperCube III Subwoofer: Definitive's SuperCubes are a new breed of powered subwoofers which utilize unique technology and components in order to achieve state-of-the-art performance from remarkably small boxes. Remember, it is important to understand when you are evaluating the SuperCubes that you can not simply compare them to conventional subwoofers based on driver size. Because of their unique technology, the SuperCubes deliver far superior performance to conventional subwoofers which utilize drivers of 50% - 80% larger diameter. Equipped with one 7.5-inch long-throw driver to two 7.5-inch pressure-driven infrasonic bass radiators. | | | ProMonitor 1000 Bookshelf Speaker: The ProMonitor 1000 satellite speaker excels whether matched with a second ProMonitor 1000 in a stereo setup or when teamed with three additional satellites in a surround sound system. Each speaker is equipped with a single 5.25-inch cast-basket bass/midrange driver, a single 5.25-inch pressure-driven planar low-frequency radiator, and a 1-inch pure aluminum dome tweeter. The drivers combine to produce ultra-smooth, high-definition clarity and a tremendous dynamic range, with a wide-ranging frequency response of 47 Hz to 30 kHz--a notable accomplishment for such a small speaker. The ProMonitor 1000s sound particularly good when teamed with a ProSub subwoofer and a ProCenter center channel speaker, creating an immersive home theater environment capable of fitting in just about any room, including small living rooms and bedrooms. | | | Mythos Solo Sound Array (SSA-42) Speaker: If you want all the thrills of five channel surround sound without the need for separate rear speakers, Definitive Technology has the solution: the Solo Surround Array Series loudspeakers. A High-End Bargain! Jun 22, 2009 In our house now I couldn't really do a real 5.1 set up so I researched this Single Speaker Array and was pleased enough with the reviews on home theater sites to let this be in my final choice category. Being a 50% off sale sealed the deal. It turned out to be an awesome choice! I bought this for TV and movie watching.
First of all this speaker is well made. It is clean and solid. It is also really heavy, heavier than I expected. The casing is metal and has a soft brushed look. The speaker cover is tight and smooth the whole way through. The mounting system is simple but strong, and the additional parts for it to stand on it's own uses the wall mount and makes it so you can adjust it to point where you need it to, make it level without scratching up anything.
As mentioned by someone before, if you can do a real surround sound setup then do it, but if you can't this would work great. It tricks your ear by using L/C/R+RL/RR channels. You will have to run all five channels to the speaker from an A/V receiver since it is not self powered.
The instructions are clear and easy to read. It tells you exactly how to set up your A/V receiver. Basically you set all speakers to small and sub to sub only, turn off all delays and enjoy.
This speaker is compatible with 6.1 and 7.1 by adding the remaining speakers to the room, but if you need something like this, then you probably can't do the 6th or 7th speakers.
Not only will you need your own A/V receiver but you will also need to add a subwoofer to it since the small speakers can't generate the lows that are needed in that .1 area. I bought this with the Definitive Technology ProSub 800 Subwoofer and they complement each other perfectly. The little speakers in this bar can get loud when they are needed to be loud.
I tried this out with the HD DVD version of Shaun of the Dead and a TiVo HBO HD recording of Dark Knight in Dolby Digital 5.1, but kept getting distracted by the movies to remember trying to listen to the surround sounds. From what I can remember the sound did feel like it was coming from different areas, but not like a normal stereo, 2 speaker, setup.
I am using this with a Yamaha RX-V730 A/V Receiver and Definitive Technology ProSub 800. Dark Knight played from an HBO HD recording on a TiVo Series 3 HD in 5.1. Shaun of the Dead was from HD DVD on Xbox 360.
With Amazon Prime's $3.99 next day shipping, this was a steal, especially since it is so freaking heavy.

Great sound and looks Sep 25, 2008 Definitive's Mythos SSA-50 has great sound and looks but not great surround sound. If surround sound is your overriding concern, stick with traditional SS speakers. For those of us who want more simplicity in our home theater speakers, setup is a breeze. The SSA-50 provides clear dialog and very good quality music and effects. Although the sound does not wrap quite enough to give a true sense of surround sound, it does provide a very broad sound stage. My home theater room measures 26 feet in width and the SSA-50 provides a sense of sound across all 26 feet. I have it paired with a Sony KDL46W4100 and find the match is nearly perfect, although Definitive markets the SSA-50 for 50 inch and larger flat panel TVs. My TV is mounted in a shallow black cabinet and the speaker sits on a shelf directly below the TV. The speaker virtually disappears into the background. You do need a subwoofer for deep bass. Stereo listening from CDs is excellent.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
