Each BP7002 Bipolar SuperTower combines a new 12 SuperCubeĀ® technology subwoofer driven by a 300-watt digital amplifier, two pressure driven 12 infrasonic radiators and bipolar dual D'Appolito front and rear mounted driver arrays each consisting of two high definition cast-basket 5-1/4 Definitive bass/midrange drivers surrounding a 1 annealed pure aluminum dome Definitive tweeter. Newly designed Linkwitz-Riley crossover networks do a superlative job of seamlessly blending the drivers so that the sonic output is totally homogeneous as if radiated from a full-range pulsating sphere. This extraordinary speaker comes very close to the reference standards set by the BP7000SC and BP7001SC for ultra-dynamic high-accuracy reproduction and achieves equally superb performance with both music and home theater program material. They will reproduce a silky smooth, incredibly detailed wall-to-wall floor-to-ceiling sonic image with extraordinary depth at lifelike volume levels (and beyond) with a sense of ease that is truly remarkable. The elegant styling features the latest beautiful sculptural refinements to Definitive's signature look with a choice of piano gloss black finish.

5I have a keen ear, and I love them ...  Jan 08, 2010
I am very picky about speakers - I used to own KEFs, and prior to that I had Nakamichis - both very good speakers. Their sound was almost perfect, but the one complaint I always had was a very limited and focused sound-stage, and a narrow "sweet-spot" with them.

I then decided to get a warmer, highter quality home-theater receiver - and got myself a Marantz. I also sold my KEFs, and started searching the market for the perfect speakers. After endless reviewing of reviews, going to audio stores, and after more than a years' search, I found what I was looking for - Definitive Technologies BP Towers. I got the BP 7002s.

First the looks - if you want discreet, tucked away, mystery-sound set-ups for audio, these are most definitely NOT for you. These speakers are large, imposing and make a statement! They look stunning with their piano black tops and black upholstered finish. Set on either side of a large-screen TV, they look sweet!

About the audio - these are bi-polars - meaning they fire from the front and back. I have mine set at a 15 degree angle to ensure that the reflective audio image creates a more uniform sound envelope. You need to set these close to the wall (no more than 10") otherwise you'll have a noticeable phase distortion from the frontal audio image and the reflected one. Also, these speakers have a powerful and very robust subwoofer in the lower part of the cabinet. So you'd want to keep them away from cabinets etc that may vibrate - the sound of clinking wine glasses can get annoying.

The sound is stunning and perfect. You almost don't need sorrounds - I didn't hook up my surrounds for a week, and didn't miss them when watching "The Dark Knight".

Speakers are ultimately for audio - that's always their true test. The BP7002s are a work of genius. The bass is rich, not overwhelming, and very deep. The mid-range is stunning, and the high-notes are silky smooth. The dynamic responses and impedance ratings on these speakers are among the best you can find.

For all the phenomenal engineering, the true test always is listening to them. I can tell you this - put in a high-quality recording of John Coltrane, keep it on mid-volume, sit back with a Cognac and close your eyes. Coltrane might as well be giving you a private audition in your living room.

5Great sound for the price  Dec 06, 2009
I purchased a pair of these speakers about two years ago, before Amazon carried Def. Tech. products. I will try to describe the cabinet details: The cabinets are covered by a black fabric cloth on all sides with a draw string under the removable top cap. To view the drivers lift the cap, untie the string and the sock can be rolled down. They also come with stabilizer brackets which are attached to the base to prevent the towers from tipping, you can pick between spikes or pads. They are not the prettiest speakers out there, but in this price range you get outstanding sound. I recommend that the buyer find somewhere to demo the speaker, if possible, before spending big bucks. You can say a lot about sound quality, but it's all talk.
I use these for fronts on a home theater system and mains for just stereo and after two years I am still impressed.

5Best for everything  Mar 14, 2009
Hard to beat! Amazing full range speaker. Some of the best imaging and performance you will ever get from a speaker in this price range. Numerous positive reviews from many magazines and websites.
They have drivers firing both forwards and backwards (bipolar speakers) as well as subs and infrasonic radiators on the sides. They sound best when about a foot away from the wall (or more if you have room) but because they image so well, you can toe them in from 2 sides of the room and still get perfect sound.

3BP7002 - powerful but lacking  Mar 06, 2009
These speakers provide powerful low bass but in my living room they lack upper bass, and the midrange and treble are not really there. They sounded best when they were far from the walls. They would make good home theater only speakers but they aren't good stereo speakers for the price.

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
