Their patented combination of bipolar technology and built-in SuperCube technology subs delivers absolutely unsurpassed sonic performance. Combine them with perfectly matched Definitive centers and surrounds for an extraordinary home theater system which is, to quote HDTV Insider, "a mind-boggling sonic achievement".Each BP7001SC combines a built-in 10" SuperCube subwoofer driven by a 1500-watt class D amplifier and two pressure-coupled 10" low bass radiators for 235.5 square inches of bass radiating area per speaker! That's nearly the surface area of a single 18-inch woofer but with better control, speed and detail than a single big woofer could ever deliver. The dual built-in powered subwoofers achieve dramatically better blending, integration and timbre accuracy than could ever be achieved with separate subs. Each BP7001SC features bipolar D'Appolito front and rear mounted driver arrays each consisting of two high-definition cast-basket 6-1/2" bass/midrange drivers surrounding a 1" annealed pure aluminum dome tweeter. Linkwitz-Riley crossover networks do a superlative job of seamlessly blending the drivers for totally homogeneous sonic output as if radiating from a full-range pulsating sphere. | | | |

Ultimate Speakers Under $20K/pr Jun 08, 2009 You ever wonder why everyone hears differently?
Some people say these speakers are the best sounding speakers they have ever heard, while some think these speakers sound terrible!
There are many variables including the room acoustics and speaker placement, original source, and audio processors (DSPs, Tones, EQs).
The most obvious one is the original source. Some discs/recordings just sound better than others. Another variable is the processors in receivers or pre-pros. It is a fact (measured and documented in audio labs) that DSPs, Tone Controls, and EQs (Dynamic, Room, etc.) will introduce distortion and sound variations to all sources. That is why most labs (Home Theater Magazine, Audioholics, etc.) will meausre the specs (THD, SNR, FR, Crosstalk) in Direct Modes, which bypass the DSPs, Tones, & EQs.
But the biggest variable is often overlooked. It is the room acoustics and speaker placement. The same speakers will sound differently in every room; and how these speakers are placed will also cause the same speakers to sound differently. Let me give you some examples.
When I first heard the Definitive BP7000SC & BP7001SC at my local Def Tech dealer, I was not extremely impressed. After reading the rave reviews on the BP7001SC and especially the BP7000SC, I expected a lot more that what I heard.
Home Theater Magazine said the BP7000SC sounded like they cost 4 or 5 times their price, which equates to $22K - $27K!!!
Audio Video Revolution said that the BP7000SC sound like speakers costing as much as a Toyota Prius and that the BP7000SC was an engineering masterpiece! Pretty big statements there.
I was willing to give these speakers a chance in my own home. Knowing that every room is different, testing these speakers in my own room was the only way to truly evaluate them.
In my first attempt, I placed these speakers 6" from the front wall, 36" from the side walls, 7 ft apart, with the active subwoofers facing the side walls.
It sounded terrible! What went wrong?
In my second attempt, I moved the speakers 24" from the front walls and faced the active subwoofers towards each other- not facing the side walls.
It then sounded absolutely beautiful! High frequencies were smooth. Midranges were smooth and clear as can be. And the low bass (dial to 11 o'clock) was tight and absolutely powerful! This sound was exactly how Home Theater Magazine and Audio Video Revolution had described it in details!
The BP7001SC sounded almost just as good IMO, except the bass was less pronounced.
I also auditioned the B&W 802D, Krell Resolution 1, Dali Euphonia MS4, & Paradigm Studio 100 speakers at their respective dealerships. I was not very impressed with anyone of them when compared to the BP7001 or BP7000. Because none of these were in the same room at the same time, I cannot truly compare them to the BP7000SC or BP7001SC in terms of the midrange or high frequency response performance. However, hands down, none of them compared to even the BP7001SC's low bass performance! When compared to the BP7000SC's bass performance, none of them were even on the same "planet" in comparison!!!
Another thing you will hear about speakers is the cabinet resonance. Some speakers, like the B&W802D, have little resonance, while most speakers, even the $22K Revel Ultima speakers, will have cabinet resonance. However, resonance is like any other specs; they don't tell you the whole story. The important thing is how the speakers sound in the end.
I believe the BP7000SCs are truly among the best speakers in the world in terms of sound quality (lows, mids, highs). You need to listen to speakers in your own room, with proper placement and acoustics!

Consumer Reports Says Buy Your HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (October 31, 2008) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2007 and June 2008. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its December 2008 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com came closest.
